Subject: RE: Fecal Impaction - Digital Manual Extraction

It does need to be ordered by a physician. It is not within a nurses scope.
We got a deficiency related to this about 2 years ago. A surveyor witnessed
a nurse do this. You can perform dig stim as a nurse but not digital manual
extraction unless ordered to do so.

Can anyone give me their opinion or knowledge whether doing a manual
extraction is within a nurse's scope without a physician's order?
