Here
is a question. You could only bill Medicare for that day if the resident
is discharged to a nonparticipating facility. If the resident was
discharged back to the hospital or other SNF, then the faciltiy would not be
able to bill for that day????
This
is how I am interpreting the CMS regulations.
If the date of admission and date of discharge
are the same, you may bill Medicare for that day.

Thank you. I did not do an assessment and I
did do the tracking form # 8. Someone answered that if it is a Med A
resident that a 5 Day should be done--BUT this resident expired prior to
midnight therefore does not require a 5 Day...correct??
We have a Med A resident
admitted on 3/3 with a diagnosis of respiratory failure, s/p mechanical
ventilation. Her last therapy day was 4/7. She has two stage II
arterial ulcers on her lower extremity which we are treating plus we
are doing diabetic teaching to assure a safe discharge. She has been an
insulin dependent diabetic for 30 yrs, however she has had some short term
memory problems since this illness and is exhibiting difficulties with the
SQ injection. How long can she be skilled under Med
A?
