Hi. Regarding Certs/Recerts, here is the link to the latest Transmittal
- 74 - that was issued April 23, 2004:
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/manuals/pm_trans/R74PI.pdf
"This instruction clarifies that a certification need not be a discrete
form, and instead, may be reflected in various elements in the medical
record." The last page of the Transmittal states that facilities must
comply with the requirements as described in 42 CFR 424.20. Here is
that link:
http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/waisidx_03/42cfr424_03.html

Thanks,
Winona Phelps, RN, RAC-C

I agree with this, but I thought I remembered CMS making the
determination that the 14-day recert could be signed at the same time
the initial cert was signed upon admission.

Did I read somewhere that CMS allows the intial Skilled Cert and the
14-day recert to be signed at the same time? Or am I dreaming?
