I have been doing this job for 6 years full
time. I was trained to do them in the last facility I worked in, but it
was only part time. I can say from experience, that it is impossible to be
part time in this job. Especially now when they are updating regs,
changing regs, now there is the DAVE
project. EDUCATE, EDUCATE, EDUCATE, your
self, before taking the position. I agree with everyone, that education is
the only way to survive this job. That and this group. This is a job
that gets under your skin, and in some ways becomes a part of you. I know
from my own experience with the powers that be, that the job was a headache, but
that issue was partly solved. I have been given control over my
department. But still have to deal with staff that does not want to comply
with some of the care issues, but that is one of the reasons I LOVE this
job is the daily challenges that I have. I have also found that if you
don't have gray hair you will soon be getting gray hair. I also
think that if you do not have any experience with the rest home, and I don't
mean taking care of the elderly at the hospital, that you start out working for
a resthome, part time. You need to get used to the way the regulations
are, the charting, the expectations, the surveyors, and the general feelings
towards long term care. Please come work for a group of wonderful people,
I l have loved every minute of it, and would not work anywhere else.
Besides there is never a dull moment with the MDS/CARE PLANS.
