The preview of possible changes to the RAI User's Manual presented by CMS' Mary Pratt and Ellen Gay at the AANAC conference in Atlantic City last month were just that - possible changes.  They made it clear that their presentation did not represent final decisions on the changes.

The only changes that became policy are the ones posted on the CMS website effective 4/26/04.  Many of the proposed changes to Section M were put on hold.

The final changes can be downloaded at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/medicaid/mds20/man-form.asp

Can someone please help me, my brain is mush at this time of the day. At the conference in AC one of the speakers, Mary Pratt, spoke about the updates on the MDS. One of the things she mentioned was to not code ulcers on the feet in section M 6  anymore as we always had been. In reviewing the updates to the RAI manual that just came out, I can't find any reference to this change. Am I going crazy... did anyone else hear her say this? Has there been a change or not? I hope someone can clarify this as I have to inservice the staff on the changes on Thursday and want to be as up to date as possible. Thanks.
