Somehow you got the truly ancient OSS audio support!  Do
you have ALSA or Jack?  I don't know anything about Debian,
but surely they use ALSA?  Or maybe pulseaudio?  I'd try

./configure --with-alsa

and try to find the error message related to it in config.log.
If that is a dead-end, I'd try

./configure --with-pulseaudio

but maybe that's a Fedora program.
