I'd strongly suggest to everyone who uses Common Lisp to take advantage of quicklisp and especially use the quicklisp distributed version of slime. You get a rather fresh slime (new quicklisp reslease app. once a month) and save yourself quite some time setting up slime. After switching to quicklisp slime my setup shrank to: (load (expand-file-name "~/quicklisp/slime-helper.el")) (require 'slime) (ok. That's a lie :-) There's still some tweaking in my init file, but the two lines are more than enough to get you going with cm and clm.
