Thanks very much! There must be a way to do the same thing as XtAppAddInput or g_io_add_watch_full in the no-gui case. I'll add it to my TODO list. It also should be possible in inf-snd.el to recognize the no-gui case (*features* won't include 'gtk or 'motif, I think), so your work-around could be invoked automatically.
