I would say raw X (or Wayland) is a bad idea since it would mostly
limit Snd to run on Linux only. If you want to make your own widgets,
and only need a canvas to draw on, gdk, SDL, or JUCE might be good
alternatives (haven't tried SDL though). Or cairo?
