Your BMT center should be supplying a lot of post
bmt requirements. Most centers have a list of dietary, cleaning, etc.
restrictions.
Some people get the ducts cleaned. Some get
air purifiers. Not sure how well they work. We got the ducts
cleaned. I wasn't there but heard it was really gross.
I had a food brigade that was a gift from
Heaven. Not only was the food yummy, because everyone wanted to make their
favorite dish, I didn't have to worry about clean-up, shopping, etc. Make
sure you tell people to bring everything in plastic, disposable
containers. Let them know about food restrictions or dietary preferences,
etc. If you hate meat loaf, tell everyone not to make that,
etc. I had a friend be in charge of the foor vrigade. I didn't feel
comfortable doing it. They also brought food to my husband and children
while I was in the hospital.
Prepare to be going to clinic most every day for
hours and hours, depending on how you are doing. If you get to clinic and
your platelets are too low, they will transfuse you then and you will be there
longer. If you are having any other issues, the visit will take
longer. If you bring the clinic staff donuts and pastries, they will like
you a lot. Some day I'll have to tell my Dunkin' Donut UniBomber
story.
You can have someone come clean if they want.
Your sheets will have to be changed at least every other day. You can
never use the same towel 2 days in a row (for awhile), so there is a lot
of laundry! I never felt comfortable having anyone but my mom and husband
doing those types of things. Bathrooms, kitchen areas have to be scrubbed
daily. You'll be too tired to be able to do it, or to care about
it!
