Dear James,

I would take all the help you can get. I don't think there is any
risk in having co-workers and friends help clean your home.
Depending on how close to your discharge this occurs, there really
should be no problem. If it is close to your arrival home, they
should be healthy and wash their hands before cleaning so as not to
spread germs to things you will be touching.

We did get HEPA filters, but I can't tell you for sure how helpful
they have been. Rob and I were overly cautious, I think. He had a
MUD and was very immunosuppressed due to high dose steroids to treat
GVHD. But we have young children in preschool and kindergarten and
the germ risk was high. Rob also wore a mask when outside and when
around our kids for the first two or three months. Also, screen
visitors very carefully regarding illness or exposure to illness.
Do not be around freshly dug soil, say around constructions sites or
gardening. Do not do any remodelling or be near remodelling. Oh,
and get rid of houseplants and down pillows or comforters.

As far as meals are concerned, will you be on a neutropenic diet?
It was not nearly as restrictive as we envisioned. No lovely fresh
produce, aged cheeses, etc., but as long as things are processed or
cooked, they are generally fine to eat. As long as your friends
know your restrictions and use good handwashing, it should be okay.
Again, we were overly cautious and only I prepared Rob's food for
quite some time. But I think the hand washing is the one, greatest
thing you can control.

I hope I answered your questions. Feel free to write me personally
with any more details or questions. We will also be happy to
provide our phone # or call you if you wish. Best of luck to you!

Warmest regards,
Kelly
