Al and I are so happy you are back home and doing better. Keep up the good work. I guess some side effects are ok, if you see a great outcome. Keep us posted. We think of you often.

Hello all. I am back home after two weeks as an outpatient at MDACC.I am in a combo trial for Zarnestra and Gleevec. The first 2 weeks called for 400mg Zarnestra in the morning and 400mg Gleevec at night. The first 4 days were pretty rugged.Symptoms were extreme nausea, vomiting, loose stool, some confusion and anxiety, and a very uncomfortable body rash.I received permission to take Imodium along with a very small dose of Effexor for the anxiety. Both drugs worked nicely. My blood counts during the two weeks remained stable. After the first 4 days, my body seemed to adjust to the new drug. Slowly, the symptoms subsided until it was back to level that I was when only taking Gleevec. This was a great relief.By the end of the two week cycle, I felt pretty good. Only major symptoms then were an inability to cool down if I got hot. I time or two I had to take a shower to cool down. The other one was occasional light headedness, but a granola bar immediately stopped it, so I think there are some drug related fluctuations in blood sugar throughout the day. This is easily dealt with by having 5 small meals during the day instead of three larger ones.Today is the start of one week of 400 Gleevec only per day...no Zarnestra. This will be a real vacation!Back to Houston next Wednesday for blood tests and consultation. A BMB will be administered in about 2 months. The results of that test will be the indicator of the effectiveness of the drug combo.Hope all are well.dt
