Ever since I started Hydrea, my liver enzymes have

At 5 times ULN, the dosing guidelines for Gleevec require the doc to
stop Gleevec until the enzymes return to 2.5 ULN. Anyway, in order to
take higher doses of Gleevec, I have to split my does into no more
than 300mg to keep the liver from heating up. So, my doc and I are
pretty weary of escalating the dose. FYI, my liver biopsy showed that
my liver was damaged by the extreme levels of white blood cells.
Evidently, the spleen is not the only place they hang out.

Hi John,
The good news is that usually the liver does regenerate itself, unless
the damage is extensive and chronic (which I would not suspect in your
case). There are known supplements to help the liver, the most well
known is milk thistle. There is much research about this.
I have basically always used a liver support product to assist with
detoxification....and I am on an 800mg dose. Let me know if you'd like
more info. I will be away tomorrow....heading to OHSU for my follow-up
with Dr. Druker. We have a bmb planned....but he is a pro.

Take care,
Nancy C.
