mom started on gleevec shortly after being diagnosed (8/02) and had
a terrible reaction. she broke out into a terrible platelet rash
from her platelet level going incredibly low. her dr tried her on a
lower dosage, but the same thing started to happen again. then mom
tried interfuron (sp?) but that dropped her hemoglobin so low she
was getting shots (not procrit but something like that) too
regularly. now her dr is looking into the new drug trials for her
because those others didn't work. right now she takes hydrea and
it's doing ok, i guess. nothing short of remission is really good
enough for me, but i'll take this. at her last appt, her WBC was
30K, hemo 11.5 and platelets were terrific at 130 or so. these are
numbers her dr is pleased with, especially since from 12/28 through
1/3 she was in the hospital with double pneumonia. crazy. wish i
was able to explain better, but her and dad go to the appts since i
live four hours away from them.
