Bob had had a stone removed from his bile duct in Jan., and his hemoglobin started to drop after that until Feb 21, at UCLA it was down to 7.1. They gave him 2 units of blood there. He then went back to the dr to check for bleeding from the stone removal, and none was found. Then he got very sick, dehydrated, weak, fever, etc. His local doctor admitted him to the local hospital right away and they did tests that seemed to indicate he had another large stone. He was transferred by ambulance to Lancaster CA (70 mi away) for another ERCP, which was done and no new stone was found, so it must have passed. Meanwhile his hemo was down to 6.9 so they gave him 2 more units. The next day he had his inflamed and enormous gall bladder removed and they gave him 2 more units!! I was told by hemotologist and cardiologist in Lancaster that the loss of blood was from the ET. There was no blood leaking out anywhere, it was being destroyed in his system by the high platelets. This has not been confirmed by Drs at UCLA yet, so we don't know this is actually the case. But thought you all would want to know about it. He will be going to UCLA on 3/21 for a BMB, etc. He had a FISH and PCR on 2/21, but I have not received the results yet.
