Hello Mr/Mrs Amit Sharma My college who has ALL (not CML) Leukemia was treated with different protocols ,radiation ,chemo,autologo graft of (his own)treated Stem cells and Gleevec for about 3 years now.
As he the Gleevec treatment was not so performing (PH+) the doctors decided to find an external donor of Stem cells .They first test the familie ,brothers and sisters.They were not compatible enough. They screened the world databanks for donors and found an American and an Englishmen. The American was abroad this year for holiday or something and therefore couldn't give stem cells (therefore!). The Englishmen could give his however.They went with a special airplane to look for them and bring them to his hospital quickly.It is now stemcel transplant by blood not by bone morrow like before.So it happens rather easier. It is a very bad journey who kept him waiting for the taking up on the production of new white bloods cels based on the donor cells .It took up to 23 days before the values really had risen.He was disparate but seems to emerge now. It seems that the treatment is not so well supported after 50. He was almost 53. His O+ group is changed to A+(Resus is the same?) !!!! and he has to take a very lot of medicine against "Host versus Graft" disease.However during the first weeks they limit the treatment for this as they detected that a certain amount of this reaction helps destroying the last residu of malign bloodcels that are not killed by the preliminary treatment involved before the graft of these stem cells. So for you , first thing is to check for compatibility in the family ,Check which leukemia it is. Secondly try to find a good institution in India.Here in Belgium it is incredibly costly but happily all the people pay a huge deal of ensurance next to the legal obliged part of the salary they pay their whole life. The transplant flight + treatment alone was around 25000 euro if I am correct.It will all be paid by insurance otherwise he had to sell his house. Regards e ------------------------ Yahoo!
