Hi Group, I have a question that I would like to pose to the group. I'd really appreciate your answers, both to the group, so that we can all benefit from the information, and to me directly.
I was diagnosed in Aug. 04 and began 800mg Gleevec in Sept. 04. By Dec. 04, I was in CCR and by March 05, I had reached PCRU. I have experienced most of the typical Gleevec side effects such as edema, diahrrea, teary eyes, etc, etc. But I believe I am also experiencing another Gleevec side effect that the doctors tell me has NOT been reported as a Gleevec side effect. I have noticed that many of my lymph nodes began swelling after I started Gleevec therapy. I have several in the back of my neck and in my breasts and under my arms that have enlarged. I had one lymph node in my breast removed and biopsied recently and it came back benign (praise G_d), though the surgeon remarked to me that when he removed it, it did feel hard (ie- cancerous). Now, a week or so ago, I had another ultrasound (just a follow up after the surgery) and have learned that one of the lymph nodes under my arm has increased from 1.8cm to 2.6cm over a three month period. The surgeon (and Dr. Cortes) believes that I need to have it biopsied also. Dr. Cortes has also suggested that cultures be done to check for infections such as tuberculosis, fungus and other things, to try to determine what is causing the enlarged lymph nodes. Again, my point here is that I feel the enlarged lymph nodes are possibly a side effect of the Gleevec. (Mabey I am correct, mabey I'm not.) The question I am posing to the group is: "Is there anyone else out there that is taking Gleevec that has experienced enlarged lymph nodes??" If so, what have your doctors said about it, if anything?
