Hi to all - You who have been around a
while through all the side effects of my
cousin, Dona, are about to hear a new one.
She is a patient of Dr. Talpaz (4 years)
and in Oct. 2003, she had to have an
echocardiogram as he wanted every one
of his patients to do so. Monday, she had
a plain chest xray because of the lesions in her lungs that are being
watched. Her
family doctor got very excited as he looked at the films and actually
began
calling to her out in the waiting room.
Seems since her last xray 6 months ago
her heart has gone from normal to about
4 times the size. She has been in touch
with Houston and is to stay on the Gleevec "momentarily' until Dr. T.
sees
the next confirmed report. She has an
appt. tomorrow with a cardiologist who is
wokring her in due to othe seriousness of
this complication. For those who know Mary Beth at MDACC: she said that
they
had had this before, thus the order for
each patient to have the echocardiogram.
According to what I have found on the
Web, only symptoms would be fatigue
and swollen ankles. And that this is
usually discovered upon having a chest
xray for other reasons. This seems to me
to be pretty scary as she has had fatigue
for the whole 4 years and has the swollen
ankles off and on, also. I will write
tomorrow night if I know more. She is
just wondering whether anyone has had
any heart problems.
Also to Dane - We are so happy for you.
Best, Avis (Hertz Nurtle)
