Richard T. here,

Hi... my situation was similar in the months after I was diagnosed! My
blood counts dropped very low on 400mg so my ONC would reduce my dosage
to 200mg or 0.

My doctor did not know that these low counts are normal on Gleevec and
that a dosage of 400mg is needed (as a minimum) to do any good.
Actually, these low doses can increase the chance of developing a
resistance to Imatinib Mesylate. My white cell count is currently at
2800 and I feel fine. I am in PCRU right now and doing well.

The other side effects, although anoying, can be delt with and most
will go away with time. I had to educate my doctor by giving him a copy
of Dr. Druker's research on Gleevec that I received from this group.

This has been an oft-given warning... if your doctor is not a CML
specialist, find one who is!

whenever she has tried to increase to 300 or 400 mg she endures more
side effects and her white cell count drops considerably. at 200 mg she
has been keeping a white cell count between 4000 and 5000 and feels
pretty good. i was just wondering if anyone else was on that low a
dosage.
