Brenda,

Thanks for your message. Roth spots are small hemorrhages around the outer edges of the retina and macula. Instead of having my eyes dilated,  I opted for a $29 Optomap test that takes a picture of the retina and macula. When my eye doctor saw the spots she was quick to send me to my GP for a CBC. Within a day, I received a call that my wbc was 20 times higher than normal. Within a day, I was diagnosed. The whole experience is still a nightmare. I keep wondering if one ever gets to the point where you're not afraid all the time and find some level of peace.

I've learned the hard way about just eating a "snack" with the Gleevec. I also found that I was actually drinking too much water and depleting myself even more. I was pushing over 90 oz./day of water. Now, I'm alternating juices etc. to keep myself in tact.

I hope with time things will level out and I'll feel better. One more thing, what does PCRU stand for?

Take care,

Vicki

Vicki,
What are roth spots?  In the beginning the fatigue is pretty hard,
betweent he stress of being dx'd, your counts being off and adjusting
to the medicine your body and mind are worn out.  As time passes this
will improve.  To fight of the general fatigue I would suggest to to
some kind of exercising each day if you can, even if it's only a brisk
walk.  I never changed my diet but I will tell you to make sure and
take your gleevec with a 'full' meal not a snack and drink plenty of
water.  This will help with diahrria and nausea if you are proned to
it.  I was fortunate that these two side effects weren't a problem for
me.  I hope you respond wonderfully to the Gleevec and get to feeling
better soon.  Take Care!!

suggest any dietary changes that might aid the Gleevec. So far, I'm
really tired and bruise very easily. Is the fatigue going to be a part
of my world or has anyone found ways to help curve it?
