Patients should NOT suffer in pain!! I fought a year-long battle to get the relief I need. You need a more sympathetic doctor.  If you need proof that Gleevec does cause pain to the levels where it is unbearable, Novartis can be contacted, as my doctor did for me. I don't know what Lortab is, but if it helped, why the heck not?  As we know, narcotics are addictive, highly so.  However, they prove to be safe and effective.  You could start off with a smaller dose and see how it goes.  I'd go to battle on this one, no one should suffer.  That is why now in most hospitals and doctor's offices they have a chart right on the wall ranging from 1 -- 10 to measure pain levels.  Although Gleevec does not affect all patients in the same way, some had to be taken off the drug because they could not tolerate the bone pain it caused.  I do not yet know why it has affected me so, but I can testify that I am one of those that it causes such a pain level that renders me helpless some days if not treated.  I lived for months with this, staying up most nights crying and holding my legs, arms, etc.  and the pain cycled...did not stay in the same area all the time.
So, I am one who is very supportive to those it affects this way.  If you wish, you may contact me privately and I can tell you more of what I did to gain the help I needed. - Lynne A.
