I'm writing this in response to a couple of posts on the group site and I also recieved a couple private emails thanking me for my honesty in describing what the Gleevec has done to me...and continues to do to me. I'm truly thankful for the Gleevec because I know I wouldn't be here without it, but I do pay a price and there is a trade off. I'm thankful that if my being honest about what I go through has helped someone else in any kind of way. Sometimes it helps just to know that there is someone...somewhere who knows exactly what you're going through.
I'm truly happy for all of you who are able to take the Gleevec and maintain a normal lifestyle...I don't begrudge anyone for having success with their treatment, but I am human, and occassionally I do ask why can't I be like everyone else? I have had to give up my job and life as I once knew it is gone. It bothers me sometimes, and I just can't help it. I do get so frustrated and sometimes I need a pity party but the bottom line is...there is no give up in me.
