The hematologist/oncologist says that James' progress is exactly what she had hoped for, as far as his numbers, bloodwork, etc. His numbers show that the Gleevec is doing its job, meaning his body is responding, thank God. My prayer is that he will never need a bone marrow transplant. The doctor cannot promise that will never happen, but she is very optimistic, as the ongoing research is so very aggressive, he is young, etc.
She is concerned, however, that his side effects are still a problem, and believes it could be thus for another month or two, which really frustrates him. Though she does have patients who do not suffer so, she has ones that, like James, feel as if they are down with a bad flu. She insists he drop from 18 hours of college classes down to 12. He insists right back he will only drop to 15. She made a very strong case for 12, but he is stubborn. I as Mommy have become "white noise," so I am going to ask two friends to whom James generally listens to intervene and talk to him, all the while praying that they will talk him around. I cannot UNDERSTAND where he gets this stubborness!
