Sir,
I am Rakesh Kashyap from Chandigarh, INDIA.Of late i have been appealing to people including this group on net to help my father to get him treated in a good private hospital since there is a lot of mismanagement and carelessness in govternment hospitals to which my father is entitled to.In fact six years of long battle against cancer has plunged us in a deep financial crisis.

your query

Since Mr. Rob has already provided you with much valuable information regarding GLEEVAC,i would like to add some from my experience and indian perspective. My father was put under gleevac about 3 years back my a TATA Memorial Cancer hospital,MUMBAI.For 2 and half years he remained very very stable with little side effects. But after that the side effects started showing off such as odema(swelling),fluid retention.etc and four months back one of his tumours got burst probably a side effect of it or may be not.doctors just suspect thay can't say it with sureity. But yes GLEEVAC is a very effective medicine and can prove to be really life saving  and also extend life and give some quality time to the patient.

NOVARTIS vs VEENAT

For the first four months my father took GLEEVAC BY NOVARTIS.But it is a very costly drug Costing nearly 1.25 lakhs rupees per month i.e 3000$ .It made us almost bankrupt at the end of four months.whatever my father had earned during his lifetime went for his treatment. Some respite came when INDIAN VERSION VEENAT was launched.IT is at par with novartis with the same salt IMATINIB .AT Present it costs nearly 12,000 rupees i.e about 300$.Its still a big amount in India. But this is somehow maneagable and within our reach.

AVAILABILITY IN INDIA-VEENAT

Its still very much available in India .MY father is still consuming it.AT present he is taking 3 capsules 2 times morning and evening. As such at present there is no problem of delayed supply. It is still being manufactured by veenat. If you need any help regarding veenat in India then you can contact me via this forum .I can surely help you out with that.I am also giving my contact details.

ADVICE
Kindly give my advice to the person suffering ,that 'do not loose your willpower ,and i am sure if any person has got that he can recuperate'.

Four years back doctors told my father OK 'u have only 3-5 months to live but through his sheer willpower he has survived 4 years as of now and i am sure he is going to live for another many years with the attitude he has .At present all i am trying to do is garner some financial help to get him treated in a well euipped private APOLLO HOSPITAL for more caring and advanced treatment.

Regards

There is a program that provides free Gleevec at https://maxaid.org The drug company Novartis will provide the Gleevec in some countries to qualified patients. I am not sure if Veenat is still available because there are lawsuits in India to stop its production because of patent issues. The Novartis program would be the best source at this point to try to get Gleevec, if they turn you down you also can appeal the decision.
