U.S. Experts Support Glaxo's Leukemia Drug Arranon
GlaxoSmithKline's s experimental leukemia and lymphoma drug Arranon (nelarabine) should be granted accelerated U.S. approval for both children and adults, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel has said.

Levofloxacin Prevents Infection in Neutropenic Cancer Patients
Fears of bacterial resistance have generally prevented the prophylactic use of fluoroquinolones in patients with cancer and neutropenia. However, two placebo-controlled clinical trials reported in The New England Journal of Medicine on Sept. 8 show that prophylactic levofloxacin during periods of neutropenia reduces the incidence of febrile episodes and other infection-related outcomes.

Childhood Cancer Survivors Face More Social, School Difficulties
Children who survive cancer are more likely than children without cancer to have social and educational problems as they grow up, according to the first large, nationwide study of the issue published in the journal Cancer.
