Hey Pat:
I was diagnosed with CML in 11/03, and COPD 5/05; I, too, have been a heavy smoker over 20+ years; and we cannot stress enough how important it is . . . not only for us survivors but for everyone to . . . NOT SMOKE. As you said 'when it rains, it pours', I also have heart disease and numberous Chronic Orthopedic diseases.
There are so many cancers, lung, throat, mouth, emphysema, and COPD that are directly linked to cigarette smoking.
