Hi! I am new to the group. I was diagnosed with
CML about three
years ago, and am now taking Gleevec. Prior to this
diagnosis, I was
diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and a few
other
disorders. All of which, occurred over a five year
period. I just
started the Gleevec, and am hopeful that it will work
to control the
white count. I've read about all of the side-effects,
and they do
worry me, but I am thankful that there is something that we can
take
to help us. I just turned the big 50, and worked all of my life,
up
until five years ago. The exhaustion from the fibro, etc.,
just
knocked the wind out of me, so I was lucky enough to get onto
Social
Security Disability. I have been hoping, and praying, that I
could
return to work, but so far it just has not been a possibility.
I am
just too tired, and the side-effects from the other conditions,
keep
me at home, most of the time. I have always had to fight my
weight,
and my mom had a hair loss problem as she aged. I am hoping
that the
Gleevec doesn't cause any of those conditions to surface. I
would
like to exercise, but I am not able, so I watch my diet, and I
assume
that the Gleevec will cause weight gain, so I will have to do
better
than I am doing now, in watching those calories. It's still
better
than the alternative of having nothing to take that can help with
the
CML. I hope to get to know all of you, and I'd like to thank
the
moderator for this site. There aren't many places to talk about
CML,
out there, so I am happy to be here. K.
