Hi Alicia and welcome to the group.
You brought back memories of when I was first dx.
It was Jan of 2004.
I was on the meds you are now on but soon was put on just 400 mgs of
Gleevec.
I was very sick in the beginning but after months of up and down blood
counts, everything seem to get back to normal( as normal as a person
with CML can
get)
Good luck with all your treatment and etc.
Blessings to all,
Jeanie<3

Hey all,
I am only reading posts on the group site right now. I am pretty
busy trying to keep awake and educated and keeping up with real life
but I wanted to post since I just joined.
I am a 29 year old woman. I was diagnosed 1 1/2 weeks ago with
CML. My WBC was 250,000 at diagnosis and 183,000 one week later.
My spleen was 18 inches below my lungs at diagnosis and 12 inches
one week later. I had 2 blasts at diagnosis and none one week
later. I am on Hydroxyurea 500 mg 2 caps 2xdaily, gleevec 400 mg 1
cap 1xdaily and Allopurinol, 300 mb 1 cap 1xdaily. I have one son,
20 months old and a loving husband.
Thank you,
Alicia

Subject: Good News At Check-Up

My 19-year-old son James (dx July 4, 2005) saw the oncologist
yesterday, and all the news is
very good!

First off, he put on two pounds, for which I am
thankful.
Then, his blood test was all good; his anemia is all
but gone, and I can tell by looking at him. His color
is better, and he has more energy. His white blood
cell count (WBC) is still in the normal range.

What *really* made my day is the results of the
F.I.S.H. which was done on
his blood four weeks ago yesterday. When he had that done
in the hospital, back in July, it showed 97% positive; the F.I.S.H.
from four weeks ago shows FEWER
THAN SIX PERCENT!!! I am very happy, and so is James.

We are very thankful to have such a wonderful doctor,
and Gleevec!

Renee

Resistance to imatinib during the treatment of chronic myeloid leukaemia
(CML) is frequently associated with point mutations in the ABL gene
encoding the ATP binding region likely to cause disease relapse.

In order to ascertain whether p53 has a role in chronic myeloid leukemia
hematopoietic progenitor response to the innovative tyrosine kinase
inhibitor STI571 (Imatinib), we overexpressed a wild type (wt) p53
construct in the K562 cell line, generated from a human blast crisis and
lacking endogenous p53.

It looks like Wilma will go across Florida unless it changes course at
the last minute. With the climate changes it seems the South will be in
for a lot more of these super hurricanes from now on.

Welcome K, So sorry to hear of your CML diagnosis but want you to know
you have found a great support group with tons of knowledge who don't
mind sharing with it you. I have known I have CML since Nov. 2003, take
Gleevec and despite the side effects that have changed my life, I'm just
thrilled to still be here, sick or not, I look forward to the future and
new medicine. My husband has fibromyalgia so if you need support for
that I'm sure you and he have a lot in common. Please feel free to ask
any questions you have, express your fears, just whatever and there will
always be someone there to help you. Please feel free to email me
personally any time if I can be of help to you. Best of Luck, Love,
Peace, Hope & Prayers, Pat Reynolds

Subject: Pat's Update

Greetings Family and Friends,

Just wanted everyone to know I'm still kickin' but not near as high as I
once was.:-s I'm struggling with the nicotine addiction STILL. After
being told I have emphysema and being so scared, even more scared than
when I was told I have CML, I feel more pressure, more stressed and I
continue to smoke. To literally save my life, I can't seem to quit. I
was using the patches and still smoking...so I knew I'd better take it
off. The Spiriva inhaler the doc gave me has gotten rid of the wheezing
and improved my breathing, I am not so out of breath as I was. I'm still
battling Gleevec side effects as always. I'm down to 118 lbs. I'm still
under a lot of stress as my son is still incarcerated, my daughter is
living with a psycho, I'm still taking care of my 83 year old mother who
will probably out live me, my husband has several health related
problems, just last week he was in dire pain in his left side and they
found a kidney stone about as big around as a cigerette and they rushed
to remove it as he only has one kidney so I spent 2 days at the doctor's
office and hospital which literally wore me out. He is better now from
the pain but he suffered some weird side effects from what they gave him
to put him to sleep. My son was released today to participate in a rehab
program for 28 days. It took me 2 months to get it set up and had to go
thru a lot of red tape so to speak cuz he was in jail and no insurance,
but it was worth the trouble because I finally got him in. He goes back
to jail when he completes the program and will be released Dec. 20th.
My son is manic depressive and ADHD and I think my CML diagnosis really
hit him hard. He lost his father when he was 9 years old and it took him
years to come to terms with that, and I remarried and he resented his
step-dad. It's a long story...and the title is "Life."

I don't want to get political on a support group site such as this but
I'm totally stressed out with our president and all the people who
assist him in one way or another to run this country. I'm stressed over
this never ending war in Iraq...and scared to death at any minute he's
going to strike another country when we can't even pay for this one. How
many lives must be lost for nothing? I'm disgusted that our president
can spend 5 billion a day in Iraq for a needless war but I must live in
constant fear of losing my insurance that is keeping me alive at the
moment. I am ashamed as an American at the way the people victimized by
hurricane Katrina were treated. I encourage everyone to take notice of
what is happening to our lives every day with a corrupt government and
VOTE to make a change in 2006 and 2008. Okay, I'm through
venting....thank you for allowing me to do so.

I wish you all the very best success with the CML . I want to welcome
the newbies...my heart goes out to each of you cuz I've been there, done
that and it's not easy but you will find great support here and much
knowledge. Don't hestitate to ask any questions no matter how trivial
you think they might be....knowledge is power to overcome CML.

Love, Peace, Hope & Prayers to All, Pat ReynoldsO:)
