Dear Barb, you wrote in [AsianCMLSupportGroup] about "Mixing herbal treatment and Gleevec":

Thanks for your very interesting email. I would be very interested what your oncologist said about this when you met him. By the way, is there any doctor seriously collecting data about interactions between Glivec and herbs? I just recently read the articles about the dangers of taking St Johns Wort with Glivec, and I read about potential effects of Feverfew on Leukemia in the blood journal. We all know about the risks of Grapefruit juice on metabolism of Glivec. But is there anyone who really structures this problem and tables the do's and don'ts? I think this is a very important topic, as a recent publication in the journal "Annals of Oncology" about a 17 country study has revealed that one third of cancer patients in Europe are taking supplemental products and treatments. Only every fifth patient talked to his doctor about it. I think this is very alarming, and I guess patient support groups should address this. At the same time, I have the impression the scientific community boycotts the discussion due to lacking clinical trials and lack of data... The best scientific resource for herbal treatments I know is the AboutHerbs internet database provided by Sloan Kettering in New York, but however it does not have much information about interactions with specific drugs like Glivec... I am very much looking forward to your responses! Best regards from Germany Jan -- mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.leukaemie-online.de ------------------------ Yahoo!
