At age 11, only five years after losing her father to cancer, doctors
diagnosed the Tulsa native with Chronic myelogenous (CML) leukemia, a type of
malignant cancer of the bone marrow that affects only one to two people per
100,000 diagnosed with leukemia. If that wasn’t enough, during her sophomore
year of high school she noticed a knot behind her ear. Tests revealed it also
was malignant.
