It is a terrible sticker shock! Some people are lucky enough to have health insurance which covers the Gleevec in whole or mostly. Without insurance, unless you are rolling in money, it's tough!!! My insurance used to cover all but $30 per month. Then GB changed medicare and said I had to pay an extra $3600 per year, more than I have available.

For those with no insurance Novartis might agree to supply the medication at no cost. I contacted Novartis and they put me in touch with PSI (Patient Services inc.) a non profit organization that helps people pay for certain life sustaining medication like Gleevec. I applied and was approved quickly... it was my insurance company that slowed the process down!
