Hi Amit,

You can see from the bone marrow report that the blasts are not
increased so he is not in blast crisis. Do they ever do a cytogenetics
test like taking 20 marrow cells and testing for the CML cancer marker,
the Ph chromosome? You need to know what is the percentage of this
cancer marker and whether it has decreased with Gleevec therapy. Then
you will know whether Gleevec is working for your Dad. They may also
do a FISH test which will report the percent of cancer marker. Ask
your doctor whether the CML cancer marker is decreasing in the marrow
with Gleevec therapy.

P may be polymorphs which is another name for neutrophils, L may be
lymphocytes. It seems that your Dad only has problem with low
Hemoglobin, all other counts seem okay. Ask the doctor in the next
consult why he thinks the Hemoglobin is going so low.

Best Wishes,
Anjana
