Hi Sandy, The white cell booster shot is called Neupogen. Not all doctors will use Neupogen straight away. For example, our doctor says that he would for some patients who have aggressive disease and who would be at risk if there was a Gleevec break but for chronic phase patients, sometimes, he would just take them off Gleevec for a short time, let the counts recover and he has found that for some patients, the interruption makes their marrow receptive to Gleevec again without further toxicity. I have seen this to be the case in one of his patients.
So, I would follow your doctor's recommendation but if too many Gleevec breaks for low ANC, discuss Neupogen and see what he says. I have not heard that split dose can help with low counts but glad to hear it did with Trey. You are right in that some antibiotics can lower the white count and if he is taking an antibiotic, it may be due to that so maybe do a CBC when he is off antibiotics. I hope Randy's ANC will soon bounce back.
