*The Access Project's Web-based Medical Debt Story Bank*
The Access Project, a national health care policy resource center, is
collecting stories from people with medical debt. Medical debt is a
problem that affects insured people, as well as the uninsured. An April
2006 report by The Commonwealth Fund showed that 1 in 5 working adults
suffers the burden of medical debt. Surprisingly, the same report also
found that nearly two-thirds of those with medical debt accrued it
despite having health insurance coverage.
The Access Project is interested in hearing from individuals who are
having difficulty keeping up with medical bills. We are documenting the
consequences of medical debt including problems accessing needed care,
damaged credit, employment difficulties, housing problems, and other
financial burdens.
If you know people who are having difficulty paying their medical bills,
we ask that you please direct them to our website at
www.accessproject.org <http://www.accessproject.org/> and click "Tell Us
Your Story."
