Dear Jane, If you have side-effects on Gleevec and your doctor recommends Sprycel (the BMS drug) once it is approved, I think it is possible to switch to it. I think the FDA approval will be for patients who are Gleevec-resistant and Gleevec intolerant. So, your doctor has to recommend one drug over the other because of severe side-effects.
An interesting point is the pricing of Sprycel and whether that will have any impact on insurance companies. Our doctor recommended Gleevec for Roy when it was not approved first-line so whether you can switch to Sprycel once it is available commercially will depend on your doctor's recommendation. I am so glad you are PCRU. That has eluded Roy but he is in 3-log reduction. Friends who have side-effects on Gleevec are thinking of the BMS drug once it is FDA approved. I personally know quite a few BMS trial patients and long-term they report less side-effects on the BMS drug than they had on Gleevec. Please keep us posted on what you do. Best Wishes, Anjana caregiver to Roy --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ [CMLHope] A support group of http://cmlhope.com ------------------------------------------------- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CMLHope" group.
