First thanks for all the info Rob, especially the lat thing about Gleevec, it makes my fiance feel allot better, and me too. I was diagnosed in April of 04, put on 400mg of gleevec and have been in remission so far ever since. I do have some side effects, fatigue, nausea, and bone pain, but it has kept my blood counts down in the normal range so as my doctors tell me I just have to deal with it. I could have it allot worse, and know some do so I do feel lucky. I do not post often, but for those of you out there things can get better. I went from losing my job, wife, and house to meeting my fiance, she is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and even though we will never be wealthy, I do feel very wealthy. She knows all about my condition, and what could happen, and told me that even if the worst happened she would be right there with me.
Oh and one annoying side effect I also had was the famous swelling around the eyes, but that has almost went away. They do not swell nearly as often. I guess what I am trying to say is even during your darkest time, things can get better. I honestly at one time thought my life was pretty much over, but now even with this disease I feel like I have a new lease on life. One thing to keep in mind is this...Everyone on the planet is going to go sometime, those of us with CML just have a better idea of when..lol. Sorry I have a dark sense of humor. Our lives are different then those without diseases but we all go through various changes in life. Granted some more than others, but if you would have talked to me back in 04, I would have told you it was over and I could have cared less, but now just over two years since I got the news from my doctor, my life has changed in a very dramatic way, but I am now happier then I have ever been. So just hang tough, and remember things can always be worse, and your not alone. There are allot of nice people here if you need to talk.
