Great to hear she is back with the family. The platelets are a
stubborn issue for many of us at first. They tend to remain high after
other blood counts have returned to normal, and usually do not drop
into the normal range for a while. It took six weeks for my platelets
to drop to normal, and they were the last thing to normalize. Then
later they tend to go too low, which is an issue for another day.

Some potential questions for the docs are: 1) You will want to know the
results of all tests performed, and what the doc thinks they indicate;
2) Is she anemic? (could be tied to her passing out -- low oxygen to
the brain); If yes, ask what type of anemia; 3) Should any supplements
be taken? (my onc said for me to take folic acid since it helps with
cell health); 4) Will an initial baseline PCR test (polymerase chain
reaction test) be done? This serves as a baseline to track progress
toward a 3 log reduction in BCR-ABL chromosomes; 5) What tests will be
required in the future? (it is critical to have CBC blood tests often
at first -- probably weekly until things stabilize). Others may want
to add more thoughts to this list.

Take notes during the discussions, and research the issues in detail
later. I also ask for copies of all lab reports and blood counts, and
keep a chart to look for trends. The docs don't do that very well
since they do not have enough time.

We wish your Mom the best. She is fortunate to have you helping her
along.
