Any medication that is taken for a period of time will be out of the main blood system within days (what the pharmacist means), but can persist in very small amounts in the soft tissues for considerably longer, because it has become embedded in them over time. Since the blood system carries off the residuals as they works their way out of the soft tissues, tiny amounts would be detectable in the bloodstream through sensitive measurements for weeks. The residual amounts would be extremely small, and not enough to have any measurable impact on leukemic cells, but it sounds like it may still affect the muscles in some people, causing continued pain.
