Anjana: I have been using the Nioxin products now since April & I can tell a huge difference already. I've been on Gleevec since Feb.2004& was told in the beginning that one would not have the hair loss taking Gleevec vs. other Chemo drugs. They didn't mention that you could have slightly thinning hair which I did notice around the beginning of the year. I've always had fine, thin hair to begin with and I had remembered a commercial ad I saw in a magazine about Nioxin several years ago. I had originally thought of buying it for my son who began to have hair loss around nineteen or twenty (it's genetic in both mine and my husband's family) but forgot about it when they came out with Propecia of which he begin to take. Well, I noticed it at the beauty shop in a J.C. Pennys store and decided to give it a try. It's a little pricey, but it has definitly stopped the gradual hair loss (or at least slowed it down considerably) & makes the hair you have "fat" so you feel as if you have a full head of hair. If one is interested, it's sold at the Trade Secret stores in most shopping malls as well as certain beauty shops.
Be careful of the Hair, Nail, & Skin vitamens you see on the shelves, ask your onc. first about them. I was taking those when I was first dx. and when the doctor asked me for a list of all medicines/vitamens I was taking, that was the only thing on the list he pointed out and told me to stop taking. Apparently there must be something in the ingredients he didn't like. I am not sure, but I would ask before taking those.
