The facts do not support a theory that CML patients who respond well to Gleevec or Sprycel have a compromised immune system, unless their WBC counts are very low. The definition of a compromised immune system is in the WBC count numbers, so if the WBC numbers are close enough to normal (probably above 2.0), that statement does not apply. The exception is when those WBC's are "blasts", and then they do not function well because they are immature, but this occurs in late-stage CMLers who fail to respond to the meds. Generally, CMLers get sick for the same reasons and at the same frequency as others. Some get sick more often than others, and others never get sick, just like any other subset of the general population.
