Hi, Wayne
Loperamide is over the counter. It's generic for Imodium. You can also
have your doctor write a prescription for the capsules available in bottles
of 100, which might be covered by your insurance. It is usually very
effective. Also, there is a drug called Lomotil ( available in generic, as
well) for
diarrhea. Hope this helps!

Lee

Have been on 400 mg daily(Gleevec) since year 2000. The last couple of
months I have problems with persistent diahrrea. Also I was placed on
Aggrenox(mild blood thinner).Has anyone on the list had similar diahrrea
problems and
found something that eases the problem?

Sorry Wayne, I started Gleevec in Feb. 2000 myself but have been lucky
enough not have any diarrhea. Have you tried any of the over the counter
items to
resolve your problem?

Hi Wayne: I've been on Gleevec about the same amount of time and had the
diarrhea problem a lot, especially for the first few years. I am also on a
blood thinner, so perhaps there is a connection. I have been on as much as
800
mg. of Gleevec, but at present am on 400 mg. I am not having a severe
problem with diarrhea at present but take a prescription for it. I take the
Generic version and it's called Loperamide and is a 2 MG capsule. I can take
it
two times a day....in the morning and at night. It helps a lot. I had
diarrhea so bad that I ended up in the hospital completely dehydrated at one
point
early on. Funny how some people are affected and others aren't. Ask your
doctor about giving you a prescription for something. The over the counter
meds didn't help me. Hope that I've helped you a little.
Hang in there,
Millie

Hi Wayne,
I have had persistant problems with diarrhea. I started on 400mg
glivec and then was upped to 600mg. This increased the problem, but
gave me good blood results.I managed to convince the specialist that
glivec was the cause and then he prescribed me Imodium capsules 2mg.
They work well for me, he prescribed enough for one capsule per day
but I find that one daily for two or three days just breaks the cycle
and I then get about a week to ten days of soft motions that are easy
to manage. I have now had my glivec dose decreased to 400mg due to
chest pains and muscle cramps and that has eased the diarrhea even
further.

SKI 606 is still under investigation, but I hear patients are doing
very well on the drug.

If you cannot get into a trial and are not on Sprycel, you should give
it a try. The new reduced dose greatly diminishes the risk of Pleural
Effusion, which was a concern about this is the past.

I have been on Sprycel since last February and I have NO issues with
Pleural Effusion, and I am doing fantastic.

Now that doctors have gained better experience with the drug, it is
generally being well tolerated.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Cheers,
Chery-Anne

Hi Millie,
I was wondering why you had to go on 800 mgs of Gleevec and why you are now
on 400? My platelets have been going up and my onc upped my gleevec to 600
mgs. It came down a lot and I went back on the 400 but this week my
platelets
jumped up again to 500. So I will be back on the 600 again. Did you counts

Hi Jeanie. My Oncologist wanted to put me into remission (which hasn't
happened) I got close, but that was it. He then put me on Sprycel which had a
lot of side effects that he didn't like. At the time I was having severe
muscle problems due to Arthritis, but it was also a side effect of the
Sprycel, so
he opted to give me a vacation from all of it and I was off of any cancer
meds for two months. He then consulted with other people on the subject and
it was decided to put me on 400 mg. of Gleevec again. My counts are wonderful
right now, so I haven't a clue as to what's next. No, my counts never
became unstable. I honestly don't ask to many questions. I've had this
doctor
for about 13 years. I am a breast cancer survivor too. I have complete faith
in him and that's a good thing. I have learned a lot from this group though
and am so glad that I have found you all. We all have such varying side
effects and problems and it's good to talk about it. I did ask him about the
new
medication that just came out, but for now....Gleevec is the drug of choice.

Blessings to you too.
Millie
