I had hairy cell leukemia in 1993 and had several bone marrow biopsies for
that. I was diagnosed with CML in 1998 and have had 2 or more bone marrow
aspirations or biopsies every year since then, so I'm at least at 25 or 26,
but it seems several people have me beat!

Senior Members:
Congrats to Gwen, Gay, SuzieQ, and any other long-termers! I will
reach my 14th year with CML August 1. It is important that we post
occasionally to give the newbies a shot in the arm. It hasn't always
been easy, but here we still are. I have a fun challenge to offer
(like Zavie's Zero Club). Two records: number of bone marrow
aspriations and number of sticks. I posted some time ago before PCR
was standard that I had 28 bone marrows. I don't remember who, but
someone beat that. I have tried to compute the number os sticks (not
including blood taken from catheters). Six years on Interferon
sticking once per day added to the number of blood sticks in the arm,
I come up with about 3,000 sticks. Anybody beat that? We've come a
long way, Baby!
Dave

Hi all, I've probably gotten the least BMA.
I've only had 2 in the 4 years of CML.
My last one I was put to sleep.
Didn't feel a thing.
As for sticks, haven't kept up with it.
Blessings to all.

Dave, You have me beat. In the last 9 years I've had somewhere around 23 to
25 of them. God only no's how many blood tests. Their was a time I didn't
want to get married because you had to get a blood test. Things do change.
Now the blood work is a piece of cake.

Best wishes

Hi,
In February I reached my 11th yr anniversary and I agree with you on the Gleevec
being worth the side effects. I also went through the Interfeon Alpha A
injections not fun at all! Jim Rodeghier

Hi,
In March of 2008 I hit my 14 yr anniversary since being diagnosed
with CML. Just wanted to post to all those new patients struggling
with the Diagnosis of CML. Keep up the good work and yes there are
side effect with Gleevec, but it is worth in. Alot better than the 2
daily injections of ARA-C and Interfereon that I started with.
I am sure they will eventually come out with something even better one
day, with less side effects.

Keep the Faith and Keep on Trucking

Love
Gwen
