Since beginning Gleevec in September, my husband has suffered from severe hand cramps. Trying to figure out what caused this was not easy, but I think we have come up with a solution and wanted to share it with everyone else. I noticed a pattern. Whenever we went out for dinner his hands cramped, but when we were at home they were fine. I also noticed that he ordered a Coke with meals, but drank water when we were at home. Putting the Coke and cramping idea together, I did some reading online. My hunch was right... I found out that cola and soft drinks contain phosphates, which deplete the body of calcium and magnesium. ( Which are recommended to help cramping!) Since he stopped drinking Coke, his hands have not cramped. Hopefully, this will help others out there that are suffering with cramps associated with Gleevec. Blessings to all, Lee
