Sorry I am only on once in a great while. We have had a HOUSEFUL of
company for a week and I have been trying to deal with Jim's increase
in counts. I do appreciate all the emails and suggestions and prayers
from all of you.
The nurse practioner called yesterday and really explained everything
to Jim. She has no idea why the dr. told him that there was nothing
to worry about at this time - she disagrees with the dr. Anyway Jim
is going to try to take 200mg of gleevec a day and see how he does. I
don't know if they will try to put him on a higher dosage or not. She
said taking the gleevec break a few years ago might have brought this
onset on or it just decided to come back on its own. They will
closely monitor his heart as best they can.
Jim had the heart problem before he was diagnosed with cml and his
problems with the heart have gotten steadily worse over the last 7 or
8 years probably due to the interferon and gleevec. The drs have told
us they have fixed everything on his heart that they can -
unfortunately not all of it can be fixed.
As far as Jim's onc in Columbia neither of us are real happy with him,
but the nurse practioner is so great and tries to keep on top of
everything.
By the way, the company we had were our two sons and their families
and we had an absolutely wonderful time.
Our oldest grandson (10) won his championship baseball game. What a
thrill.
I will try to keep all posted.
