Zoloft and Greenie:
I sent you the message on how I am doing with Zoloft, but Kelly has a very
good point on this whole thing.  Ask your Oncologist as well as any other
doctors you have.  Like I said everyone is different.  We are not supposed to
take Tylenol, and I am not allowed Ibuprofen because of kidney trouble.  You
just get fed up after awhile.

Hi Greenie:

In response to your question about Zoloft - it is an antidepressant -
an SSRI. I was told by Cleveland Clinic that while taking Gleevec I
cannot take any SSRIs as the Gleevec will increase the "dosage" of
the
drug at least by two-fold. In other words, you could potentially
"overdose" on the SSRI. I am taking Wellbutrin XL and I was told that
is the only antidepressant that does not interact with the Gleevec.
SSRIs can interfere with libido and ability to achieve orgasm -
Wellbutrin does not do that. Quite frankly, I see medications others
on Gleevec take which I have been adamantly told I cannot take. So, go
figure. No Tylenol, ibuprofen, Aleve, on and on and on. I don't know
what to believe. And as far as the nausea - it comes and goes. The
Gleevec still kicks my butt 6 months after starting it. It makes me so
sick sometimes and they insist that other patients don't get sick
after being on it for any length of time. BS is what I say. It gives
me weird headaches which make me nauseous - sometimes. Other times it
makes my stomach burn which causes the nausea. I feel like crap most
of the time - but, I guess it is a small price to pay in order to
reach remission. Check with your onc before starting an SSRI and see
what they say. Sometimes I feel like nobody (medical professionals)
know what they are talking about. I was prescribed Protonix for my
stomach and then drilled months later about how I cannot take that
medication with Gleevec and it was prescribed by that same onc!!!!
Makes me crazy sometimes.
Take care,
Kelly
