Today, August 10, is the birthday of my mom Laquita. While many of the longtime members know my mom, many of you who are new to the group may not realize she is the reason that http://CMLHope.Com and this support group were founded when she was diagnosed with CML years ago.
She has done well for all of these years with her CML treatment (still doing well on Gleevec after many years of Interferon) and still has good test reports. The past year however has been extremely difficult for her because of the illness of my father who is bedridden with cancer, COPD, post stroke syndrome, and other medical problems. My mom and I along with my girlfriend have had to provide 24 hour care for my dad for nearly a year now. We have had some help from sitters and home health care personnel but much of the burden has been on my mom since that is who my dad always calls for and wants to do things for him.
