Hi all,
Since I have high potassium in my blood, I thought this could be the problem.
My onc would not even address this, and shouldn't he have known this could
be caused by this?
Anyone had this problem?
Thanks to all.

In _medicine_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicine) (_oncology_

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hematology) ), tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is a
group of _metabolic_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metabolism) complications that can occur after
treatment of _cancer_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer) , usually
_lymphomas_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymphoma) and _leukemias_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leukemia) , and sometimes even without
treatment. These complications
are caused by the break-down products of dying cancer cells and include

 ] Cause and risk factors
The most common tumors associated with this syndrome are poorly
differentiated lymphomas, such as _Burkitt's lymphoma_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burkitt's_lymphoma) , and leukemias, such as
_acute lymphoblastic leukemia_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acute_lymphoblastic_leukemia) (ALL) and _acute
myeloid leukemia_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acute_myeloid_leukemia)
(AML).
Other cancers have also been associated with TLS but are less common. Usually,
the precipitating medication regimen includes combination _chemotherapy_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemotherapy) , but those patients with lymphoma
and ALL can be affected with _steroid_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steroid)
treatment alone.

 ] Symptoms and pathogenesis
_Hyperkalemia_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperkalemia) . _Potassium_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potassium) is mainly an _intracellular_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intracellular) _ion_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion) .
High turnover of tumor cells leads to spill of potassium into the blood.
Symptoms usually do not manifest until levels are high (> 7mmol/dL) [normal
3.5-5.0 mmol/dL] and they include
    *   _cardiac_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart)   conduction
abnormalities (can be fatal)
    * severe muscle weakness or paralysis
