For the 3 years previous to that time, I was bone on bone and the pain progressed to where I couldn't stand it any longer. Prior to the surgery they let me take me meds including Gleevec with a very small amount of water. The morning after I took them as usual. If you are having a total replacement which is what I had it is the most painful recovery of any replacement that's done. But don't let me scare you, just make sure that the surgeon that is doing it has a pain manager doctor that will be kept informed of your level of distress. Also try to get into a therapy center at the hospital if you can believe me the ones that come out to your home are not as good. You need aggressive therapy right off the bat not home therapy with minimal pain cause they don't want to hurt you. That only will set your recovery time back and might hinder your fully recovering!
