...My whole reason for responding to your post was to question whether or not you can use ketaconazole or other anti- fungals while on Gleevec (I was led to believe you are not to use them). I do believe you are also supposed to avoid those agents while on Sprycel, too. Please let me know if I am wrong. I get told one thing, I read another and then I go here to get the real scoop. Now that's a really good point/question! You're right. Both clotrimazole and ketoconazole are listed under "moderate interactions" http://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/gleevec_d04758.html Looking at the interaction information it indicates that both can increase plasma levels of imatinib (Gleevec). There's more information on the page regarding ketaconazole & Gleevec http://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/gleevec_d04758_ketoconazole_d00103.html ..."coadministration of a single 200 mg oral dose of imatinib with a 400 mg oral dose of ketoconazole resulted in a 26% increase in the mean peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and a 40% increase in the area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of imatinib compared to administration of imatinib 200 mg alone." So I would expect less of an interaction with the topical creams or shampoo. But, do I have to say it? Like we all know, always talk to your doctor! I guess I should have included that I run all my OTC medications by my onc just like my prescriptions. And for that matter you need to check any "natural" remedies. Just because something comes from a plant instead of a lab doesn't mean it's not a drug! There was a big deal in the HIV world when it was discovered that Saint John's Wort dramatically lowered the plasma levels of many Protease Inhibitors. Almost a certainty some people aren't around today because of it. And many thanks to Trey for his expertise again! That explained an itch I just couldn't get a handle on.
