My husband, 71, was diagnosed with CML in 2006 and has been on 400mg of Gleevec ever since. His disease is well-controlled.
He will be having lumbar fusion surgery (at L3-4 and possibly at L2-3) on Dec 15. The surgeon will use BMP, a lab-grown bone protein, to facilitate the fusion, along with titanium rods/screws. In 2003, before his CML diagnosis, my husband had his first lumbar fusion surgery using BMP and that fusion was successful. Does anyone know of interaction between Gleevec and BMP? If anyone has had lumbar spinal fusion, were there any additional issues because of CML and/or Gleevec.
